Organised by students, this will be our first virtual hackathon. We welcome students from all around the world currently enrolled in secondary school, ranging from 13-18 years of age – with or without prior CS experience or knowledge. We hope to provide experiences for students to engage in collaborative computer programming!

Virtual Setting

Due to current limitations, this year’s hackathon will take place online. The event will run from the 14th to the 22nd of November, taking place over the course of two weekends.

This year’s Hackathon theme revolves around the environment. As the world begins to place a larger focus on environmentalism and sustainability, the solutions should reflect the growing importance of these universal issues. By encouraging more and more people to help mitigate the myriad of issues affecting our ecosystem, we can start the conversation on addressing everything from carbon emissions to water pollution.

Check out the event programme below!

Any students currently enrolled in secondary school are welcome to participate!

  • Keynote Speaker Laurence McCook, the Head of Ocean Conservation at WWF HK.
  • App and Web Development (delivered by trainers from Cobo Academy and Microsoft)
  • and more!
  • For those who are unavailable to join the event live, we will be posting recordings of the workshops here

What are the expectations?

  • Teams will create a product with any software/platform of their choosing.
  • Teams will present their product on November 22 through Microsoft Teams to a panel of judges.
  • The product must solve an Environmental issue, to be outlined on the first day of the Hackathon.

The Teams

Around 1-2 weeks before the competition starts, we will send out a google form to allow people to form teams. Afterwards, we will group up those without a team together – so feel free to join even if you don’t have a team.
